Today, the Second Graders had a fabulous trip to the Turtle Back Zoo! Each student was able to see the animal they are studying in school up close and in action. After thinking of their own designs for zoo exhibits, it was fun to see the actual exhibit at the zoo. As a special treat, we were able to meet with some of the zoo keepers who are involved in designing exhibits to get some more behind the scenes information. Did you know that some animals get enrichment such as scents and sounds in their exhibit? These enrichment items change periodically so the animals don't get bored and can continue to use their natural instincts even in the wild. We also learned that the animals who don't adapt to the cold go inside for the winter. The animals are so used to seeing and hearing people all day, that during the winter, the zoo keepers put on movies for them to keep them entertained!
