Throughout the year, the Second Graders have been keeping track of how many books they read. For every 100 books they complete as a class, the class earns a prize. We are so impressed that the prize that was thought of and won the vote was... Second Grade's very own Discovery Learning Day!
The topic was rocks and each group of students was given a rock for the day. The challenge was to correctly identify which type of rock (metamorphic, igneous, or sedimentary) you were given. The students engaged in tons of hands on activities to understand the characteristics of each type of rock and how it is formed. Some highlights included squishing layers of bread to represent metamorphic rock, melting wax to represent igneous rock, and making our own trace fossils. Some of our projects need time to dry, and we can't wait to bring them home on Monday!
